Set up your Google Business Profile and add Heaston Innovations as a manager

This takes about 15 minutes. You keep full ownership the whole time. Heaston Innovations only gets manager access, so we can keep your profile updated and pull your reviews for your website.

What you need before you start

Part A: Create or claim your profile

  1. Go to Google Business Profile

On your computer or phone, go to business.google.com and sign in with the Google account you are using for your business.

  2. Start your profile

Select Create your profile (or Start now if that is what you see). If Google shows you a business that looks like yours already, do not create a new one. Skip to the next step to claim it instead.

  3. Search for your business name

Type your business name. If your business already appears in the list, select it to claim it. If it does not appear, select the option to add it as a new business.

  4. If your business already shows up on Google Maps

Search for your business name and city in Google Maps. If you see a listing, select it, then select Claim this business, then Manage now. Follow the prompts to verify you are authorized to manage it.

If the listing already shows as verified and claimed by someone else, use the "Request access" option on that listing instead of trying to create a duplicate. See the FAQ below for what to do if a former employee or agency set it up.

  5. Choose your business category

Enter the category that best describes your business, for example "Plumber" or "Dentist." This helps customers find you when they search.

  6. Add your location or service area

If customers visit your business in person, enter your street address. If you travel to customers instead, choose to set a service area and enter the cities or zip codes you serve.

  7. Add your contact details

Enter your business phone number and website address, then select Next.

  8. Verify your business

Google will offer you a verification option. Video verification is the most common option right now, where you record a short video showing your business. Depending on your business, you may instead be offered a phone call, text message, email, or postcard. Choose whichever option Google offers you and follow the on-screen instructions.

Verification can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few weeks depending on the method. This is normal. See the FAQ below if verification seems stuck.

  5. Choose the Manager role

Under Access, select Manager. Do not choose Owner or Primary owner.

Choose Manager because it lets Rob keep your profile updated and respond to activity, but it does not let him remove you or delete the profile. You stay in full control.

  6. Send the invite

Common questions

I already have a Google Business Profile but do not know the login

Search your business name in Google Maps and look for a "Request access" or "Claim this business" option on the listing. Google will guide you through verifying that you are authorized to manage it. If that does not work, message Rob and he can help you figure out the next step.

A former employee or an agency set up our profile

You can still request access. Search your business on Google Maps, open the listing, and look for a "Request access" option. Google will contact the current manager or owner, or offer a verification path if no one responds in time.

My verification failed or has been pending for a while

This is common and usually not a problem. Go back to business.google.com, open your profile, and check the verification status. If it has been pending more than a few days, Google's support pages let you request a review. Text Rob if you get stuck and he can help you sort it out.

Can I remove Rob later

Yes, at any time. Go to Business Profile settings, then People and access, find Rob's name, and remove him. This does not affect your ownership of the profile.

What is the difference between Owner and Manager

An Owner has full control, including the ability to add or remove other people and delete the profile. A Manager can update information and respond to customers, but cannot remove people or delete the profile. You should stay the Owner and add Rob as a Manager.

Do I need to do anything after I send the invite

No. Once you send the invite, just text Rob to let him know. He will accept it on his end.
